Surendren Apparoo has nearly 30 years of experience in the media, as a journalist, editor and Public Relations Professional.
As a Principal Consultant of Buzz Communications, he has led PR and Media Relations campaigns for diverse clients and industries. Among them are Kaplan Singapore, World Congress on Safety and Health at Work 2017, European Union in Southeast Asia (EU-SEA), Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Council for Third Age (C3A), Compact Singapore, Career & Education Singapore, Sichuan Haite Aerospace Simulation, Human Genome Organisation, South Asian Diaspora Conference, Remy Cointreau International, Panasonic Singapore, International Maritime Defence Exhibition (IMDEX Asia), Global Security Asia (GSA), Singapore National Cooperative Federation, German energy giant MTU Asia, Food Hotel Asia, Wine for Asia, International Cooperative Alliance General Assembly, Singapore Expo, Singapore Cruise Centre, Parkway Group Healthcare and Thomson Medical Centre.
In his previous job, Surendren was the Asia Pacific Account Manager in an MNC PR Company, specialising in Public Relations for IT and technology-driven companies.
The portfolio of accounts he handled included Multi-National Corporations, local and Asia-Pacific based companies. Among the clients were Alcatel, Avnet, Schlumberger, AT&T, QALA Asia Pacific, Iworld Networking, In-Fusio, Satyam Computer Systems, IBM Wireless and Exabyte Storage Systems.
Surendren’s first job was as a journalist in Singapore Press Holdings, writing for The Straits Times. He was later transferred to The Business Times, where he wrote for the Executive Lifestyle section, then the Companies Desk.

Rav has been with Buzz Communications since its inception in 2004, and has been instrumental in servicing the myriad of clients the company works for.

Rav has also previously serviced a range of clients including Reuters, DP Information Network and the Singapore Cricket Club. She has also conducted the media relations campaign for Kuok Singapore’s successful bid for Pacific Carriers, and undertaken projects such as the DBS Y2K communications campaign, the launch of the Atriax online foreign exchange marketplace, the launch of the Singapore Exchange’s presence in the biotech sector, and an image-building exercise for American property franchiser Century 21.
To add to her 10 years in PR, Rav was previously a senior journalist in The Straits Times for more than 20 years, covering a variety of fields, from land transport to aviation and tourism. Her last position held was Assistant to Editor/Correspondent.
Her many years as a journalist has equipped her with an in-depth knowledge of the workings of the media, including identifying and packaging stories and features that appeal to the press. Her coverage of the aviation and tourism beat on the News Desk of The Straits Times for more than 10 years has given her immense exposure to the workings of the airline, tourism, conventions, conferences, hotel and food & beverage industry. Prior to that, she covered the land-transport beat for The Straits Times. Rav’s depth of knowledge is depicted, for example, by her coverage of the building of the Mass Rapid Transit system from Concept to Completion of the Basic System.
She has also covered various stories and assignments while in the Straits Times, including Health Seminars and other specialised topics.
As a writer, Rav has won several awards over the years, including the first Story of the Year award from the then Straits Times Group in 1978, and numerous other in-house awards for outstanding stories and features.
Rav has also written three books, published locally, on her own time. These are:
- The Kiasu Traveller – a light-hearted look at Singaporeans travelling abroad
- Step into the Unknown – an investigation into the presence of psychic phenomena in Singapore
- Licence to Peep – An authorised biography of celebrated private investigator Harmon Singh
